MIGRANT WORKERS, EXPATRIATE ASSIGNMENT
Migrant labor or known as economic migration, involves the movement of people from one country (or region) to another primarily for employment related reasons.
Migrant workers are used extensively for crop harvesting, mandating that they follow the harvest seasons
Is important take into account that “One out of two migrant is a woman”, this number is increasing and these are women who live and work away from their countries of origin send billions of dollars to their relatives - often more frequently than men (INSTRAW, 2008). Nowadays woman are migrating more to other countries for different reason, but they also have the poorest life conditions when they arrive in the host country, they are exposed to human trafficking, abuse, they don´t have access to some jobs etc
Expatriate
Is a person temporarily or permanently residing in a country and culture other than that of the person's upbringing or legal residence. To exile (oneself) from one's native country or cause (another) to go into exile Today expatriates are very common around the world, the people migrate because most of them are looking for better opportunities of life, work, and others for pleasure or knowledge.
Expatriates undergo a socialization and acculturation process that affects their career intenties, this people need to be reskilled to fit in the host country.
Integration & social inclusion
Integration is a two way process: it requires adaptation on the part of newcomers but also by the host society
Managing expatriate assignment
Success of personnel assigned abroad depends largely on their preparedness through training in Culture, customs, and language. Recognize them for their work and potential for making contributions to the firm now and in the future.
Explain how easy is it for Colombian companies to employ expatriates locally?
For Colombian companies is easy to employ expatriates locally because Colombia doesn’t have many requirements for people entering othercountries, which allows people to enter legally to work and not under the informality.
An example is the foreigners who speak another language, which is easily used in companies with internationalization processes, or as teachers of language
